What's new in Stardew Valley 1.5 title picture

Stardew Valley 1.5 is out for both PC and Console and it is a massive update. You will learn what has been added to the game and all the cool stuff you can do. I plan to update this post with new information as I play through this update.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Split Screen Feature

With the new update in Stardew Valley, people now can play split-screen. Before this update, the multiplayer option was online only. Please note that only pc and console versions have multiplayer.

However, if you want to play split-screen, you need controllers for them. If you need controllers, below is a list of controllers, from Gamestop, that I personally use for casual games like Stardew Valley and recommend for each system.

Xbox One / PC – Xbox One Wireless Controller

Playstation 4 – Sony Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller

Nintendo Switch – Power A Enhanced Wireless Controller

Stardew Valley 1.5 New NPCs

There are 4 new NPCs that have been added to the game. Out of the 4 only one of them, Leo actually has heart events. The other three have quests. The new NPCs are:

  • Birdie
  • Professor Snail
  • Leo
  • Gourmand Frog

If you want to check out their quests, check out the Stardew Valley 1.5 NPC Guide.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Ginger Island

There is a whole new island to explore called Ginger Island which is part of the Fern Islands. Once you repair Willy’s boat, he is willing to take you there, for a price of course. This is where the majority of new items are from. All the new NPCs are here too.

You can use the island to sleep, once you have the sleeping hut. You can use that area to grow warm-weather crops.

There is a volcano dungeon to explore. It contains new monsters, new resources to find, a dwarf that sells items on the 5th floor, and a forge on the 10th floor that allows you to make new weapons and combine rings.

Hidden around the island are golden walnuts that you use to get to new areas by finding parrots. There is also a mysterious door that requires you to find 100 golden walnuts before you can open it.

A new geode-like item, Golden Coconuts can be found here.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Special Order Board

Once you reach the endgame, Mayor Lewis and Robin put up a special order board outside the Mayor’s house for unique requests. There are 2 orders each week, but you can only choose one of the two. Completing these quests can net you money, more scenes in Pelican town, recipes, and secret items.

Stardew Valley 1.5 New Items in Shops

Robin and Willy have new furniture in their stores. Robin also can build 2 more rooms in your house, remove your cribs, and can make shortcuts through the community.

Pierre’s event shops have more decorative items for sale than before. The Wizard has the new warp totem you can build for your farm.

Stardew Valley 1.5 New Farm and Items

In this new update, there is a beach farm. Now, with this farm, you cannot put sprinklers in sandy soil. Also, you can find boxes that wash up on your beach farm with items inside.

There is also a new animal, the ostrich, and with it of course is a new item, the ostrich egg.

New crops came with the update as well. You can now plant pineapples, taro tubers, and have mango and banana trees. (For Strategies on maximizing the beach farm check out the “Ultimate Stardew Valley Farm Guide“!)

Stardew Valley 1.5 New Recipes

In Stardew Valley 1.5 there are new recipes. The ones I have found so far are:

  • Mini Obelisk
  • Dark Sign
  • Fairy Dust
  • Rustic plank  Floor
  • Stone walkway floor
  • Bug Steak
  • Thorns Ring
  • Ginger Ale (Cooking)
  • Warp Totem: Island

Stardew Valley 1.5 New Fish

With a new island comes new fish. The fish that I have found are:

  • Blue Discus
  • Lionfish

Stardew Valley 1.5 Fixes

Concerned Ape has fixed the following glitches that I am aware of:

  • Horse selling Ice Cream
  • Chest Duplication Glitch
  • Blue island on console (fixed on the first patch after the 1.5 update)

Stardew Valley 1.5 Holiday Event Changes

There are a few changes in the holiday events. Your spouse will bring the children to events now.  Also in the second easter egg hunt, the dialogue changes. Pierre also has a shop during more events.

My character’s kids are hiding behind the tree

Stardew Valley 1.5 New Area by Train Station

There is a blocked-off path by the train station that only becomes accessible once you 100% complete the game. The game actually has an ending now, but do not worry, you can still play the game afterward.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Secrets

With a new update, you can expect new secrets like secret fishing spots, new hats, glitches, and more. Because of this, expect my Secrets You May Not Know of Stardew Valley to be updated as I find them.
